How to Delete Your Reddit History in 2026?

If you are trying to understand how to delete your Reddit history, the first thing to know is that Reddit history is not one single thing.

Your Reddit activity can include posts you created, comments you wrote, drafts, chat messages, searches, recently viewed content and information stored outside Reddit in your browser or device.

Each type of activity is managed differently.

That also means there is no single button that automatically erases every part of your Reddit history at once.

If your goal is to clean up your account, reduce old activity or improve your privacy, start by identifying exactly which type of history you want to remove.

Important: Deleting your Reddit account is a separate action. It does not automatically delete posts or comments you previously published, so account deletion should not be treated as a substitute for cleaning up your content.

What Does “Reddit History” Actually Include?

People use the phrase “Reddit history” to describe several different types of activity.

Before deleting anything, it helps to separate them.

Browsing and Recently Viewed Activity

Reddit can associate browsing activity with your account, including content and communities you view while using Reddit normally.

This is different from content you actively publish.

Viewing a post does not make that post yours, and clearing or avoiding browsing history does not remove the post from Reddit.

Search Activity

Searches performed while using your Reddit account can also form part of your activity history.

Search activity should be treated separately from posts, comments and other content you created.

Reddit’s interface and available history controls can change between the web experience and mobile apps, so use the search or history controls currently available in the version of Reddit you are using rather than assuming one universal menu exists across every device.

Posts and Comments You Created

For many users, this is the most important part of their Reddit history because posts and comments can remain publicly accessible from a profile or through direct links.

If you want those items removed, you generally need to delete the posts and comments themselves.

Clearing search or browsing history does not delete content you previously published.

Drafts and Chat Messages

Your Reddit account may also contain unpublished drafts and messages you sent through Reddit chat.

These are separate from your public post and comment history and need to be managed using their own controls.

Browser and Device History

Some traces of your Reddit activity may exist outside Reddit entirely.

For example, your browser or mobile device may store:

  • visited URLs;
  • browser history;
  • cookies;
  • cached files;
  • app usage information.

Deleting activity from Reddit does not automatically remove information stored by Chrome, Safari, Firefox, your phone or another device.

If privacy is your goal, think of Reddit history and browser/device history as separate layers.

Can You Delete All Your Reddit History at Once?

Not through one universal Reddit action.

Different parts of your Reddit activity are managed separately.

For example:

  • posts have their own deletion controls;
  • comments have separate deletion controls;
  • drafts can be deleted independently;
  • sent chat messages can be removed individually;
  • browsing and search activity are different from published content;
  • browser history is managed outside Reddit;
  • deleting your account is a separate process altogether.

This is why it is better to think in terms of a Reddit history cleanup rather than looking for one “delete everything” button.

How to Delete Your Reddit History: 6 Areas to Clean Up

If you want to reduce the amount of old activity associated with your Reddit account, work through the relevant areas one by one.

1. Review Your Recent Viewing and Search Activity

Start with the activity you do not actively publish, such as searches and recently viewed content.

Reddit does not present every type of browsing and search history as one universal cross-platform history page, and its interface can change over time.

Use the history, recent or search controls available in the current Reddit interface you are using to review or clear items where those controls are provided.

Keep one limitation in mind:

clearing browsing or search activity does not delete Reddit posts or comments you created.

Those need to be handled separately.

2. Delete Reddit Posts You Created

If you want a post removed from your own Reddit history, delete the post from the account that created it.

On reddit.com, the normal process is to open your profile, go to your posts, open the menu for the post you want to remove and select the delete option.

The Reddit mobile apps provide similar controls from your profile and the individual post menu.

Reddit provides official instructions for deleting your own posts on reddit.com and its mobile apps.

Before deleting an important post, consider whether you need to save:

  • the text;
  • an image or video you uploaded;
  • the URL;
  • screenshots;
  • information you may need later.

Once your goal is permanent cleanup, keeping your own backup can prevent you from later needing to recover information you intentionally removed.

Also remember that your deletion controls apply to your own posts. They do not give you the ability to delete a post published by another Reddit user.

3. Delete Your Reddit Comments

Comments are managed separately from posts.

If you want to remove old comments, open your profile and review the comments associated with your account.

On Reddit’s current web and mobile interfaces, individual comments can be deleted using the menu attached to the comment.

This can be important if you are trying to clean up an older account because deleting a post does not automatically mean every separate comment you wrote elsewhere will disappear.

If you have years of Reddit activity, reviewing posts and comments as separate lists can make the cleanup easier to manage.

4. Delete Saved Drafts

Drafts are unpublished content, but they can still be part of the information stored in your Reddit account.

If you no longer need them, Reddit provides controls for deleting saved drafts on reddit.com and in its mobile apps.

Deleting drafts can be useful when:

  • you abandoned an old post;
  • the draft contains information you no longer want saved;
  • you are cleaning the account before reducing your activity;
  • you simply want to remove outdated material.

Because drafts were never necessarily published, deleting them is different from removing a live Reddit post.

5. Delete Chat Messages You Sent

Reddit currently allows you to delete messages that you sent in direct chats or group chats.

On the mobile app, this is done from the individual message controls. On reddit.com, the delete option is available when interacting with a message you sent.

However, there is an important limitation:

You cannot use your account controls to delete chat messages that another person sent to you.

Deleting one of your sent messages should therefore not be confused with erasing an entire conversation or controlling the other participant’s messages.

6. Clear Browser or Device History Separately

If you used Reddit in a browser or on a shared device, cleaning your Reddit account may only solve part of the privacy problem.

Your browser may still contain:

  • Reddit URLs you visited;
  • search history;
  • cookies;
  • cached data;
  • saved login information.

Those records are controlled by the browser or device rather than Reddit.

If your objective is a broader privacy cleanup, review the privacy and history settings of the browser or device you used as a separate step.

Should You Download Your Reddit Data Before Deleting History?

If you are planning a large cleanup, it may be worth requesting a copy of your Reddit data first.

This is especially useful if:

  • you have used the account for several years;
  • you plan to remove many posts or comments;
  • you may need records of old activity;
  • you are considering deleting the account later;
  • you want to understand what information is associated with the account before making changes.

Reddit provides an official process for requesting a copy of your Reddit data.

Reddit says preparing that data can take up to 30 days.

Depending on the information associated with your account, the available data can include items such as posts, comments, votes, recent IP addresses, account preferences and authorized applications.

A data export is not the same as deleting your history.

Its purpose is to give you a record before you begin removing things you may later want to reference.

How to Delete Large Amounts of Reddit Posts or Comments

Deleting a handful of posts or comments manually is straightforward.

Cleaning years of activity can be more difficult.

You may find third-party tools, browser extensions or scripts that promise to delete large amounts of Reddit content automatically.

Be careful with those tools.

Reddit currently warns that third-party tools for deleting posts, comments or other Reddit content are not officially supported and may not work as intended.

Before giving any third-party service access to your account, consider:

  • whether it requires your Reddit password;
  • what account permissions it requests;
  • whether the software is still maintained;
  • whether its deletion behavior is clearly explained;
  • whether you can accomplish the same task using Reddit’s own controls.

If you need to remove a large number of posts or comments and cannot do it using Reddit’s normal controls, Reddit currently provides a data-request assistance route for those situations.

Do not assume that an unofficial “mass delete” tool is the safest or most reliable option simply because it is faster.

Does Deleting Your Reddit Account Delete Your History?

No — not all of it.

This is one of the most important distinctions in the entire process.

Deleting your Reddit account removes the account and disassociates your username from content associated with it, but Reddit states that deleting the account does not automatically delete the posts and comments you previously created.

Reddit’s account deletion guidance specifically explains that deleting an account does not automatically delete posts or comments.

If you want your own posts and comments removed, delete them before deleting the account.

Once the account itself has been deleted, you also lose access to it and cannot reactivate it.

For that reason, account deletion should usually come after any content cleanup you want to perform, not before it.

This guide focuses on cleaning Reddit history and activity. Deleting the Reddit account itself is a separate process with different consequences.

What Happens After You Delete Reddit Posts or Comments?

When Reddit data is deleted, Reddit says it promptly becomes unavailable on the platform and is subsequently deleted, except where Reddit has a legal reason or legitimate business need to retain information for longer.

Reddit also requires moderators, developers, researchers and data licensees using its official services to stop displaying or using content when that content is deleted.

However, deleting something from Reddit should not be interpreted as a guarantee that no separate copy has ever existed outside Reddit.

For example, someone may previously have:

  • taken a screenshot;
  • quoted the content elsewhere;
  • saved a copy;
  • shared the material on another website;
  • archived a public version.

Reddit can control what remains available through Reddit and its authorized data systems, but it cannot necessarily erase independent copies held outside those systems.

That distinction matters if your goal is reputation management or removing information that has already spread beyond the original Reddit URL.

Can Deleted Reddit History Still Appear in Google?

Sometimes a Reddit page or information from a Reddit page can continue appearing in Google Search after the source content has changed.

Reddit and Google Search are separate systems.

Deleting a Reddit post or comment changes the source, but a search engine may need time to recrawl the page and update what it displays.

If the original Reddit content is already gone but an outdated result remains in Google, that becomes a search-visibility problem rather than a Reddit history problem.

We cover that separately in our guide on how to remove a Reddit post from Google Search results.

How to Keep Future Reddit Browsing Out of Your Account History

If your concern is future browsing rather than old content, Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing feature can help reduce the activity associated with your account.

Reddit currently offers Anonymous Browsing through its iOS and Android apps.

While you are using it, Reddit says it will not:

  • save your browsing history to your Reddit account;
  • save your search history to your Reddit account;
  • use that activity to personalize recommendations;
  • use that activity for personalized notifications.

When you leave Anonymous Browsing, the search and browsing history from that anonymous session is cleared.

There are limitations.

Anonymous Browsing is currently an app feature, and account-based actions such as posting, commenting, voting and using chat are not available while you are browsing anonymously.

It also does not control information that may be handled separately by your mobile device, internet provider or websites you visit outside Reddit.

Think of it as a way to keep future Reddit browsing activity separate from your Reddit account — not as a universal private-browsing system for everything you do online.

What If the Reddit Content You Want Removed Is Not Yours?

Cleaning your Reddit history only gives you control over activity and content associated with your own account.

It does not let you delete another person’s Reddit post or comment.

If another user published harmful content about you or your business, clearing your searches, posts or account history will not affect their content.

That situation requires a different approach.

You may need to consider:

  • whether the content violates subreddit rules;
  • whether Reddit’s sitewide rules may apply;
  • whether the author can be contacted appropriately;
  • whether moderators are relevant;
  • whether search visibility has become part of the problem.

If that is your situation, read our guide on how to get a Reddit post removed when someone else posted it.

A Simple Reddit History Cleanup Checklist

If you want to clean up your Reddit history, work through the account in layers rather than looking for one universal delete button.

Browsing and search activity: review the history and search controls available in your current Reddit interface.

Posts: delete your own posts individually where necessary.

Comments: review and delete your own comments separately.

Drafts: remove saved drafts you no longer need.

Chats: delete messages you sent where appropriate, understanding that you cannot delete another person’s messages.

Browser or device history: manage that outside Reddit using your browser or device controls.

Large cleanups: consider downloading your Reddit data first and be cautious with unsupported third-party deletion tools.

Account deletion: treat it as a separate final decision because deleting the account does not automatically delete your posts and comments.

The key is to identify what you mean by “Reddit history” before you begin deleting anything.

When Reddit History Cleanup Is Not Enough

Cleaning your own Reddit history can help you remove content and activity associated with your account, but it does not give you control over content published by other Reddit users.

A broader review may be useful when:

In these situations, the problem may involve content removal, moderation or search visibility rather than Reddit history cleanup.

Removal Reddit reviews each situation individually and does not guarantee that particular Reddit content can be removed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deleting Reddit History

Does deleting my Reddit account delete my posts and comments?

No. Reddit states that deleting your account does not automatically delete posts or comments you previously created. If you want those removed, delete them before deleting the account.

No. Reddit does not provide one universal action that deletes browsing activity, posts, comments, drafts, chats and other account information at the same time. Different types of activity need to be managed separately.

You can delete messages that you sent in direct or group chats. You cannot use your account controls to delete messages that another Reddit user sent to you.

Can I delete all my Reddit comments?

You can delete comments you created using Reddit’s comment controls. If you need to remove a large amount of content, be cautious with unsupported third-party bulk-deletion tools.

Possibly. Removing a post from Reddit does not guarantee that screenshots, saved copies, archived versions or other independent copies no longer exist elsewhere.

Reddit says searches and browsing performed during Anonymous Browsing are not saved to your Reddit account, and that session’s search and browsing history is cleared when you leave the mode.
